Classical lunchtime concerts bring CALM

During Advent, Newport Minster is joining a practice enjoyed by many larger cities around the country – lunch-time classical concerts – to raise awareness of a suicide charity.

Next Friday (December 13), at 1pm, a trio of musicians is offering a pause in the pre-Christmas bustle of shopping in order to raise money and awareness for a CALM, (Campaign Against Living Miserably.)

Soprano, Jackie Maw, mezzo soprano, Alison Finch, and pianist, James Longford, have come together for this, the first lunch-time concert to take place in the Minster. The programme features an engaging mix of duets and solos from Jackie and Alison, with delightful musical selections from James.

The three musicians have not previously performed together, but are committed to raising awareness and funds for CALM.

Alison said: “Jackie is a committed Christian, I am a committed atheist and James lies somewhere in between, but in coming together as a trio we hope to create something that makes those differences irrelevant.”

It is free entry to the concert; donations to CALM can be made via iw.observer/calm.
