Christmas concerts from Vectis Brass

Vectis Brass Band is going on an Island tour, giving three Christmas concerts over the festive season and all are free to attend.

Vectis Brass is a community organisation, based in Ryde, since its formation in 1947. The band has a strong community ethos and believes in making music as accessible as possible. The band teaches students young and old how to play brass instruments, and donations received over the Christmas period help to keep this tuition free.

On the concert tour, the band will first visit the Salvation Army Hall, in Newport, on Sunday at 2.30pm. This concert will feature the youth and training band as well as the main band. Next will be the beautiful St John’s Church, Chawton Lane, Northwood on Sunday, December 1 at 3pm.

Finally, the band will visit St Saviour’s Church, in Shanklin, on Thursday December 12 at 7.30pm.

Musical director, Jay Taylor, said: “We have been working hard on our Christmas programme and have a variety of music for everyone to enjoy.

Collections at Christmas help to keep the band afloat for the rest of the year, and we are grateful to the local community for all their support.”

All concerts will feature traditional carols and festive favourites, with tea, coffee and refreshments provided.
