Cabinet Connection: Lora Peacey-Wilcox – Leader of the Isle of Wight Council

By Press Release May 5, 2023

There is obviously a lot of interest in the Coronation this weekend. I am writing this while on a short trip abroad to attend a family event, and it is interesting the see the levels of interest overseas. In some areas it seems to be even greater than at home! It also raises concerns about the potential for disruption and chaos as I travel back to the UK on Friday!

All being well I will be back on the Island in time for Saturday and I shall try to attend as many of the events that are in and around Cowes as I can. Please join in where you can and support the many events that will be taking place. Even if you are not a royalist, these will be opportunities to show the value and importance of our close local communities.

I am truly grateful to the many towns and parishes across the Island that have spent so much time organising such events. As I have often said, so many of the good things on our Island which support our local communities are the result of the work of unpaid volunteers doing the best they can for local residents.

I am sure that many pictures of events will be taken and there will be lots of pictures in next week’s issue of the IW Observer for us to all enjoy. I would like to thank the IW team Observer for the superb job they are doing providing the Island with an informative and entertaining ‘free’ paper. I know just how many residents enjoy picking up their copy and how much they like the special features in it.

Going back to the Coronation for the moment, we know King Charles is passionate about the environment and has been for many years. I hope this means that, as he doubtless tours his Kingdom going forward, we may see him on the Island so that we can show him all the good work we are doing as the Alliance and with our good friends, supporters and staff to enhance our environment, tackle climate change and support our status as a UNESCO Biosphere.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the weekend.

God Save the King.
