Wroxall swimmer shines in Hyde Park challenge

Lindsey Shenton

Wroxall resident, Lindsey Shenton, made a splash at this year’s Swim Serpentine event in London’s Hyde Park, securing third place in the 65–69 age category.

Competing in the popular two-mile swim, Lindsey was one of 26 women in her age group and completed the course in 1h 1m 58s, with both first and second place finishers also clocking times close to the one-hour mark.

Swimmers faced brisk conditions, with the lake temperature dropping overnight to a chilly 16°C. As a result, wetsuits were the preferred option for most participants. In previous years, warmer waters – closer to 20°C – have allowed many to swim in standard swimwear.

Held annually in September, Swim Serpentine attracts over 6,000 swimmers from across the country. Participants take on distances ranging from half-a-mile to six miles, with each lap of the Serpentine measuring one mile. Swimmers enter in waves of over 200 throughout the day.

While the event is not a competitive race, it serves as a personal challenge, with a large number of entrants raising funds for their chosen charities.
