Wight Lesbians to hold event at Ryde Castle

‘Wight Lesbians’ meet on Friday (November 2) from 1pm to 4pm at Ryde Castle Hotel on the Esplanade for coffee and cake or something stronger.

The group welcomes all women aged 18 and over who identify as lesbian or bisexual.

The group was started in 2015 by Caroline Diamond and Anna Murray of Age UK IW LGBT.

Anna’s role at AGE UK is in connection with domestic abuse and hate crime and also works with anyone who identifies as trans, providing invaluable support and opportunities to meet others.

Caroline said: “We identified a need for a fun, social group that also provided a safe space for women in the Island’s LGBT community. Sadly two members of the group have passed away in 2018 and the group wants to take a moment to remember all they brought to the Island and to Wight Lesbians whilst welcoming new members and looking ahead to new venues and activities for meetings.”

Caroline and Anna were granted funding from the NHS ‘My Life A Full Life’ project, meet ups were held across the Island in Ryde, Cowes and at Age UK’s offices in Newport.

They then met with Paul Armfield and started one of the Island’s first dedicated ‘LGBT and Friends’ nights at Quay Arts.

The next event is on December 27 and there are also plans for meet ups in Ventnor in the future.
