The annual charity Towers Party on Saturday has raised an incredible £80,000 for Cure Parkinson’s and Motor Neurone Disease.

The 59th party was hosted by John Caulcutt at his home in Yarmouth, with nearly 1,700 people attending.

Among the acts was Blue Water Giants, a group who have formed after playing with some of the legends in the music business, including Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Robbie Williams and Procul Harum.

John said: “We printed 1,700 tickets and sold 1,636. The event was a record in terms of people attending and with the money we raised. At the end of the evening someone came up to me and said he would donate £25,000 to us for this year’s charities – a magnificent gesture.

“We have also raised around £9,000 from JustGiving, and our various bars and food outlets were practically sold out.

“The music was also good in all shapes and forms, with bands also including the White Hot Pipes and a Ukelele band! Plus my own band, Step on the Gas, who have been going for more than 50 years, also played!”

Among those who were on stage was John’s long-time friend, John Summerton, a founder member of ’70s band, Flintlock, who currently plays for Herman’s Hermits. He missed a gig abroad to make an appearance.
