Second man arrested after ‘life-threatening’ assault in Sandown

Police have arrested a second man following a serious assault in Sandown.

A 31-year-old Sandown man was arrested on Tuesday night (September 18) and remains in custody on Wednesday morning (September 19).

Officers responded to a report of a man having been assaulted outside of the Old Comical pub in St John’s Road on on Monday (September 17).

Forensics officers were seen beside the pub in an alleyway on Tuesday morning (September 18).

A 24-year-old man from Sandown was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder.

A spokesman for Hamsphire Constabulary said: “A 49-year-old man from the Isle of Wight was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to a head injury. His condition is described as life-threatening.

“A 24-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody at this time.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the pub or surrounding area at the time, who may have seen what happened.”
