A rain-affected weekend of cricket, poor wickets and restricted targets had match officials reaching for their calculators. Highlights included Archie Lucy, taking 5 wickets for Ventnor, and Kevin Cooper hitting 90 for Northwood.
Premier & Hampshire Leagues
In Premier Division One, Ventnor lost by 3 wickets away at Rowledge, after being all out for 175. Dan Cox top-scored with 51, but the mainland side reached their target with the loss of 7 wickets in the 48th over, with George Watts taking 3-29.
Ryde narrowly lost by 12 runs at home to Odiham & Greywell in a weather-affected match. The visitors scored 280-5, with Matt Webb taking 2-32. In reply the Islanders’ opener, Kerry Rice, was unbeaten on 25 with Tom Durman hitting 35 as they reached 103, 2 short of the revised total.
In Division Three, Ventnor 2nd XI and Shanklin’s home matches were abandoned, as was Ryde 2nd XI’s match. At Westhill, Shanklin’s Ben White took 3 wickets, while Matt Lambourne and Nathan Moore took 2 each before the match was halted. Archie Lucy took 5 wickets at Steephill for Ventnor before rain stopped play.
IW Leagues & Cup
In Division One, Newport’s Tom Dye hit 53 from a total of 215-7 against Ventnor 3rd XI, before the match was abandoned. Kevin Cooper struck 90 for Northwood against Freshwater before play stopped.
Ventnor IV XI conceded their Fred Winter Cup match away at Cowes, after scoring 132-8, with Nick Dobson 32 not out. Scott Rice and Jason Heap took 3 wickets each. In reply, Cowes scored 39-0 to reach a revised target in 8 overs.
Fixtures
This weekend sees Ventnor home to Old Tautonians & Romsey, Ryde travel to Hythe & Dibden, Ventnor 2nd XI visit Old Tautonians & Romsey 2nd XI, with Shanklin & Godshill at Sway, and Ryde 2nd XI home to Langley Manor.
On the Island, the Senior Cup sees Freshwater home to Ventnor 3rd XI, Northwood welcome St Helens, and Shanklin & Godshill 2nd XI hosting Newport. In the Fred Winter cup, Ventnor 4th XI play Northwood 2nd XI at Arreton.
