Ryde School teacher and Olympic athlete, Nick Percy, has officially qualified for this summer’s World Championships in Tokyo, following an exceptional performance in Oklahoma, USA.
Competing at the prestigious “Throw Town” meet, Percy delivered a sensational discus throw of 67.86 metres (223ft), extending his personal best by 13 centimetres and breaking his own Scottish national record – a record rooted in his birthplace.
The performance not only marked a new milestone in Percy’s athletics career, but also met the World Championships Automatic Qualification Standard.
Nick’s journey to Oklahoma was not just about elite sport. As a teacher at Ryde School with Upper Chine, Percy balances professional athletics with shaping the lives of young people back home. He is back in the classroom this week and immersed in school life, even as preparations intensify for one of the biggest events of his sporting career.
Nick credits much of his progress to the supportive community. “I’m so grateful for everyone who helps make this journey possible,” he said.
