Police probe East Cowes mountain bike thefts

A police investigation has been launched following the theft of a teenager’s mountain bike in East Cowes.

A gang of three men in their 20s are understood to have approached a teenager on Wells Road, near Waitrose Supermarket, on Sunday, January 13, walking up to the lone teenager and snatching the Voodoo Bantu mountain bike, then riding off on the machine.

Hampshire Constabulary have been informed and officers are investigating the cruel theft.

A second incident has also occurred in East Cowes tonight. A £1,000 Cannondale mountain bike has been stolen from outside the town’s Liberal Club. Although the bike was secured with a lock, it’s owner, Simon Butler, returned to find the lock cut in two.

The theft has also been reported to Hampshire Constabulary.

Anyone with information about either theft or the whereabouts of the bicycles should contact Police on 101. Information can be given anonymously via Crimespotters on 0800 555 111.
