Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team called to Totland

Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts and HM Coastguard were called to Totland on Sunday afternoon following reports of a number of objects spotted on the beach.

Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to locate the two objects of Ordnance seen by a member of the public who was beach combing.

The objects were found, photographed and their position recorded by Team members before a plan was established with the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal to asses the Ordnance.

Deemed as Live, the two pieces of Ordnance were taped together and secured in a bag before being carried out into the tide where a controlled explosion was carried out.

Coastguard officers created a 200m wide cordon on the beach whilst the work was undertaken. Both teams cleared the scene by 18:45.
