One man’s journey from ‘Postie To Pirate’ recounted at Medina Bookshop

By Press Release Feb 28, 2024

On Thursday 7th March at Medina Bookshop in Cowes, first time author Derrick Babington will be in conversation with his editor Pat Murgatroyd, discussing and reading passages from his heart-warming memoir. Musical interludes of songs of the sea will be performed by local musician and folk singer John Hacker.

‘Postie to Pirate’ is a book that came about whilst the author was recovering from a life threatening illness 12 years ago.
Derrick Babington, a postie at Ventnor in the 1970s, went on to be a professional storyteller for Island schools and a volunteer Watch Leader on Tall Ships. He was also one of HMS Victory’s cutter crew. He takes readers on a fascinating journey in this witty memoir. Whilst writing the book Derrick found himself in hospital again two years ago and said, with a smile, “I was not sure what the outcome would be so I decided to write the last chapter before I had completed the book, just in case.”
Thanks to Paul Armfield at Medina Bookshop Cowes, Derrick Babington will be in conversation with his editor Pat Murgatroyd, discussing and reading passages from his heart-warming mémoire.
