Lights of Love brings community together

Families and friends gathered at the IW Crematorium chapel, for a Lights of Love service held in memory of loved ones during what can be a difficult time of year.

Organised by the IW Council’s bereavement team, the service began at 6.30pm and included the lighting of candles in remembrance of those who have died. Those attending shared a quiet moment of reflection together in the chapel.

The service was conducted by celebrants, Shirley Winn and Jonathan Skeet, alongside Rev’d Stephen Sutcliffe.

Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to stay for hot drinks and cakes, providing an opportunity for people to talk together and reflect on shared experiences.

All proceeds from the evening will go to Mountbatten Hospice, supporting Island families through challenging times.

Cllr Ian Dore, chairman of the IW Council, attended the service and said: “It was a truly heartfelt occasion and a privilege to say a few words.

“I’ve found myself at services quite a few times over the last couple of years and I cannot emphasise enough how appreciated the bereavement team are. Seeing our community come together to honour loved ones shows the strength and compassion that defines the Island.”

The council’s bereavement team thanked everyone who attended and supported the event.
