IW County Show returns with farmyard fun and local flavour

The Royal Isle of Wight County Show returns over the weekend of July 12 and 13, and it promises family fun, agricultural pride and local produce.

One of the Island’s longest-running traditions, the County Show, has brought the rural community together since 1833.

While farming remains at its heart, the show now spans 37 acres, and offers a broad celebration of Island life. Visitors can try their hand at leading a sheep, herding pigs, or even walking an alpaca at the popular show farm. Elsewhere, the Main Ring, sponsored by the IW Observer, will feature vintage tractors, gun dog displays, and the Shetland Pony Grand National, alongside the entertaining Big Bale Challenge and the prestigious Grand Parade.

Other highlights include the livestock area, equine arena, and the Village Green, where bands and performances bring a festival atmosphere. The Food Pavilion showcases Island produce, from cheeses and chutneys to drinks and vegetables, while the WI Tea Tent remains a favourite stop for cake and conversation.

The Garden & Outdoor Living area will feature miniature show gardens, and local creatives will share their work in the Island Arts and Markers Market. Children can enjoy sandcastle building at the Island’s only inland beach in the Maritime Area, or explore traditional skills, such as spoon whittling and hurdle making in the woodland area.

Early bird tickets are available now from £12.50, with entry free for under-16s when accompanied by a paying adult. For full details and to book, visit iwcountyshow.co.uk.
