IW Council investigating Barratt Homes after Pan pond complaints

The Isle of Wight Council is investigating a housing developer in response to reports regarding the pond at Pan Country Park, Newport.

Councillor Geoff Brodie (Newport East) had alerted council officers after he was bombarded with complaints about the state of the nature pond in Pan Country Park.

Residents alerted the councillor after they found the pond in a poor condition close to the Pan Meadows development site.

Barratt Homes say they had been working closely with the Isle of Wight Council officers and that together they agreed to close off the informal path around the pond because of health and safety concerns.

Their spokesman added: “This area has been inspected for wildlife and a visual inspection was carried out before work started.”

A council spokesman said: “The Isle of Wight Council is investigating, as this work was not part of the agreed schedule with Barratts.”
