The Waverley Holiday Park’s ‘Beer, Music, Poetry and More Beer Festival’ held last weekend has raised a record amount of money for a local charity.
The IW Defibrillator Group benefitted from the generosity of Islanders and visitors to the sum of £4,000.
Steve Read, from the Isle of Wight Defibrillator Group, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Julian Adams and the team at the Waverley Holiday Park, the local musicians and spoken word artists and of course the public who so generously put their hands in the pockets to raise so much money.”
It is the twelfth charity festival at the Waverley Holiday Park, with Island bands The Bohemians, The Damien Paul Band, The Geckos and The Baggywrinkle Blues Band, and spoken-word artists, Adam Gaterall and Superb Owl, among those who performed over the three days.
Money was raised through the sale of beer and cider, including the popular Earl’s RDA donated by Island Ales, as well as from collection buckets.
There were 16 barrels of ale and eight boxes of cider, with only eight pints left over.
Julian Adams, from the holiday park, said: “I’m blown away by this year’s festival, definitely the best one yet. We nearly sold out of cider due to the scorching weather but managed to secure emergency supplies.”
Next year’s dates have also been released; the festival will take place over the weekend of September 13-15.
