They started out as members of Sheffield’s most pioneering pop group and split to form a new politically-driven band that would ultimately rewrite the rule book with a debut album of icy electronica and futuristic funk.
Now, the hugely iconic 80s electro-pop band Heaven 17 will be gracing the stage at this year’s Jack Up The Summer festival.
The brainchild of Martyn Ware and born from the collapse of the original Human League, 80s synth pioneers Heaven 17 have stood the test of time and been an influence on modern music for over thirty years. Their debut 1981 album, ‘Penthouse And Pavement’, was, and remains, a highly acclaimed classic. Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware continue to perform the hits from their overwhelming back catalogue, including ‘Temptation’ and ‘(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang’, ‘Let Me Go’, ‘Come Live With Me’ and many more.
The organisers of Jack up the Summer said: “We are thrilled to have one of the biggest acts of the 1980s joining us at our newly remixed family-friendly throwback festival Jack Up The Summer, on Saturday, August 10. We promised a day of 100% 80s chart acts and who better to kick-start this year’s series of line up announcements! Heaven 17 were massive in the clubs and discos and regulars on Top of the Pops throughout the entire decade.”

Formally Jack Up The 80s, this hugely popular event continues to deliver on its retro promise by celebrating the upbeat, hand-clapping music of yesteryear, centred around party hits and feel-good music from the 80s, this year incorporating a day of 90s music on the Sunday.
The event takes place at its new location, North Fairlee Farm just outside of Newport.
