Good day for Island teams in Wessex League

It has been a good day for Island teams in the Wessex League (Saturday, December 22). Cowes Sports broke their dismal run of ten winless games with a 2–1 home win against Fareham Town to escape the drop zone and rise to 16th place in the Wessex Premier. In the first division, East Cowes Vics managed a highly creditable away win at New Milton Town, while Newport drew 2–2 away at Totton And Eling.
In the match of the day at Westwood Park, Cowes started brightly, with Fin Phillips playing John McKIE on for him to place the ball in the back of the net after just seven minutes. Fareham equalised to level the scores at half-time. However, Gareth BRICKNELL’s diving header in the 82nd minute sent crowd of 142 home happy to celebrate a 2–1 win for ‘the Yachtsmen’.
Joe BUTCHER and Elias AHMED were the scorers for Vics in their 0–2 win at New Milton Town. Vics now rise to 11th position in the Wessex 1 table, equal on points with Newport in 11th position.
Former Vics’ striker, Jordan BROWNE played the starring role in Port’s 2–2 away draw at ‘the Millers’, bagging a brace of goals to celebrate his return to the Island’s capital’s club.
