The Day Lewis Pharmacy, on Newport High Street, has once again fallen victim to a break-in – the fourth since May. The latest incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday. Police were called at around 1.30am after a window was smashed. When officers arrived, they found broken glass scattered inside the shop and a brick lying on the floor. It is not yet clear if anything was stolen, and no arrests had been made at the time of going to print.

Just days earlier, on Thursday, September 11, the pharmacy was burgled. A man has since been charged in connection with that offence.

On August 29, a brick was thrown through a window at around 4am. A man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and later bailed.

The first of this year’s incidents was on May 15, when the glass panel of the front door was smashed at around 8.18am. Two men were arrested at the time — one on suspicion of burglary, the other on suspicion of attempted burglary.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said enquiries are continuing and Tuesday’s break-in is being linked with other investigations. He added that officers are working with the business to offer security advice, and that there will be extra patrols in the town centre.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 44250418704.
