Island Roads will be carrying out essential highway improvement work on Sandown Road in Lake, next month.
Sections of the road between Cemetery Road and Newport Road are set to be strengthened in a five-day project, due to begin on Monday, November 3. The work aims to improve the underlying structure of the carriageway, and tackle the causes of surface deterioration that have affected this busy stretch.
Because the project involves deeper-than-usual excavation, a full 24-hour road closure will be in place for the duration of the scheme. However, the works will be phased to ensure residents can still access their properties where it is safe to do so, except when work is taking place directly outside. Pedestrian access will remain available at all times.
Diversion routes for traffic will be clearly signposted, with Island Roads advising motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys while the closure is in place.
An Island Roads spokesman said: “Residents and road users will know that this section of road does need to be improved, and unfortunately it is not possible to do this without causing some short-term inconvenience. We thank the community in advance for their co-operation and understanding, and hope any short-term disruption will be offset by the longer-term benefits the work will bring.”
