Bus and Coach Museum recovers from flooding

The Isle of Wight Bus and Coach Museum, in Ryde, has reopened for the 2024 season, after a massive volunteer effort to recover from last October’s floods when the building was deluged with water overnight to a depth of at least 8 inches.

While the vehicle collection was unaffected, sales stock and some archive material was destroyed or damaged. The museum is very grateful to the County Museums Service, who assisted in the salvage.

Volunteers have rebuilt and repainted of the kitchen area, following generous assistance from NJC Construction for the initial work. Items damaged by flood had to be written off and replaced.

A shuttle service from Ryde Esplanade to the museum, and will operate on selected Sundays in the summer, with running event, Rydabus next weekend (May 18 & 19). The museum is open, free of charge to the public, on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10am to 4pm, from now until the end of October. Donations welcome.
