Body of man who jumped from Wightlink ferry found

The body of a man has been found in Portsmouth Harbour after he jumped from a car ferry.

The man jumped from the St Cecilia at 10.30am on August 29, a large scale search effort returned nothing until 7.16am on Monday (September 3) when officers found the body of a man located in the water near Haslar Wall.

A spokesman from Hampshire Constabulary said that the body recovered was the same man that jumped from the ferry on August 29 and his next of kin have been informed.

The body was recovered by the Ministry of Defence Police and has been identified as a 58-year-old from Southsea.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for Hampshire Police added: “We can confirm this is the same man who went overboard from the Wightlink ferry.”
