Medina Theatre’s pantomime is back, and this year, audiences can expect something bigger, brighter and brand new. Producer, Lee Redwood, who is returning for his fifth year at the theatre, says Beauty and the Beast will be the company’s most ambitious show yet.
“This is probably the biggest one we’ve done,” he said. “It’s a brand new show, not one we’ve performed as a Christmas production anywhere else, and it’s been written especially for Medina. There are some lovely songs, hilarious comedy, and plenty of magic.”
Familiar faces will return to the stage, including Chay, in his fourth Medina pantomime, alongside Alex, who is appearing for a third year. “It’s great to have the same cast back together with some new faces too,” said Lee. “There’s a great bit of banter between them that the audience really connects with.”
Lee believes pantomime remains one of the few truly family experiences still enjoyed across generations. “When I was a kid, my grandparents used to come round and we’d all watch something together on TV – that doesn’t really happen anymore. Pantomime is one of the only things everyone can do together. There’s something for everyone: jokes that go over the kids’ heads, plenty for the adults, and even a few TikTok-inspired moments to make it current.”
The show promises dazzling costumes, modern music, and lots of laughs. But for Lee, the heart of Beauty and the Beast lies in its story. “There’s a depth to it you don’t always get with other pantos. It’s got adventure, magic and romance – a bit of everything. It’s sparkly, funny and full of heart. We’ve wanted to bring it to Medina for a while, and it feels like the perfect fit this year.”
