The first female president of Shanklin Rotary Club has stepped down, but according to its members the community owes her a ‘huge debt of thanks’ for all her hard work.
For two years Lyn Fleming has led the charitable group and in that time almost £50,000 has been donated to local charity and community projects as well as supporting charities that deal with disasters around the world.
The funds are raised by means of Shanklin Rotary’s annual January sale, held in Parkdean Resort’s clubhouse in Lower Hyde. For a two week period, donations are collected around the local area and then sold to generate funds for the Shanklin Rotary Club’s good causes, directed at local youth initiatives, charities that support the disabled and sick children and those that care for the elderly and vulnerable members of the island community.
