Women across the Island are being invited to get behind the wheel of a bus at a recruitment event, organised by Southern Vectis, on Saturday (October 31).
The women’s recruitment day will give visitors the chance to meet the company’s training team, and try driving a bus in a safe, off-road environment.
The event takes place at Rookley Test Centre, Pritchetts Way, from 10am to 2pm, and aims to encourage more women to consider a career in the bus industry.
No previous bus driving experience or bus licence is required, as full training is provided. Applicants need a full UK car driving licence, driving experience, and good customer service skills.
Southern Vectis operations manager, Simon Moye, said: “We’re proud to offer a career that is open to people from all backgrounds, but we know women remain under-represented within the bus industry.
“Our women’s recruitment day is a chance for women to experience driving a bus, meet our friendly training team, and discover the support available to help them succeed.
“They don’t need a bus licence or previous experience – just a full UK car driving licence, a positive attitude, and a passion for great customer service. We’d love to welcome more women into our team.”
The company offers a basic hourly rate of £15.58, paid training, free travel across the Go South Coast network for employees and eligible family members, staff discounts, and career progression opportunities.
Places are limited and advance registration is required through iw.observer/womens-recruitment.
Applications are welcomed from everyone.
