Woman airlifted to Southampton hospital following collision in Whippingham

Emergency services have been called to Whippingham Road in East Cowes this evening, following a three-vehicle collision in the notorious accident black spot. Fire crews from East Cowes and Newport were mobilised just after 6.15 pm on Monday evening (January 7).

Police and paramedics were also called to the scene. A woman was freed by firefighters following a short entrapment. The woman has been flown by air ambulance to Southampton General with what is understood to be serious head injuries.

The road remains closed whilst an investigation is carried out and recovery of the vehicles takes place. The closure is likely to remain until 10pm.
