W&B's Sam Cant (8) completes hat-trick against Shanklin

There was cup delight for Ventnor and Osborne Coburg this week. Whitecroft & Barton extended their Division One lead with a double hat-trick from Mark Taylor, but all three senior Island clubs suffered Wessex disappointments.

Island Cups

Ventnor, with only 10 players for most of the match, overcame Brading 2-0 in the Memorial Cup at Watcombe Bottom. It was a closely contested match which was goal-less until Ventnor sub, Emerson Tattersall, who is recovering from a broken cheekbone, was brought on for Robert Gee. He scored twice in the last 15 minutes to secure his team a place in the semi-finals, with Neo Lamb player-of-the-match.

In the Junior B Cup Osborne Coburg’s first team won 13-0 against their reserves, with a double hat-trick for Mark Taylor, and one apiece for Liam Sumpter, Carl Phillipson, Nick Payne, Harry Green and sub, Stephen McCarthy. They face Wootton in the final.

Island Leagues

Division One leaders, W&B, dominated their home match against Shanklin. Kicking downhill in the first half, W&B’s Sam Cant raced on to a through ball to score after 15 minutes past Shanklin keeper, Peter Wilson. Jamie Linington and Joe Rayner added two more first-half goals, with Sam Cant heading his second before the break to lead 4-0. After the break Shanklin battled to get back in the game, but W&B’s Sam Cant completed his hat-trick with five minutes left.

Binstead COB beat High Park 3-2 at the Molehill, with two goals from Harrison Taylor and one from Ryan Marchbank

In Combination One, 2nd-placed East Cowes Sports Res, came from two goals behind, to beat leaders West Wight Res 3-2. Shane Silk, Aiden Jones and Mackinly Blacklock scored for Sports after the break, after Simon Merrett and Charlie Smeeton, who was later booked, put West Wight ahead in the first half.

Ventnor Res won 4-1 at home to Vectis Res, with goals from Nathan Barlow, Aaron Hartup, Stu Chiverton and Euan Sergent. The battling Vectis side saw Darren Wood net a consolation goal.

Bembridge Res won 9-2 at home to Brading Res.

Sandown & Lake Res drew 3-3 at home to W&B Res, with two goals from Sandown’s Michael Smart and one from sub, Mason Parker. For the visitors, Louis Biles, Lorry Stanton and Jaiden Whillier scored, securing a point for each of the teams.

In Combination Two, 3rd-placed West Wight A won 1-0 away at Newchurch, with Tom Killeen scoring in the last 10 minutes.
Niton Res won 3-1 at home to Ryde Saints Res.

Wootton Res beat Ventnor A, 5-1 at the Rec with two goals from Connor Gudgin, and one apiece for Josh Collins, Phil Shuro and James Gunningham.


Cowes narrowly lost 3-2 at home to Laverstock & Ford, with goals from Finley Phillips and sub, Matthew Benford.

Vics lost 2-1 away at New Milton, with Harrison Yates responsible for the consolation goal.

Newport lost 3-2 at home to Frimley Green, with goals from Sonny Myram and a Michael Thomsett goal followed up from a penalty. This gave ’Port a two-goal first-half lead, but the visitors battled back into the match and secured the win with 10 minutes left.

Midweek results

Brading’s Gold Cup match against Vics was postponed.

Premier Division Cowes lost 3-1 at home to Bournemouth, with Connor Kelly’s header before half-time the consolation goal for the Yachtsmen.

In Wessex Division One, Newport won 3-2 at home to Millbrook, with goals from Harrison Catania, Joe Butcher and sub, Jordan Browne.

Division One’s East Cowes Sports drew 3-3 at home to West Wight with goals from Shane Silk (2) and Aiden Jones, cancelled out by West Wight’s Ash Brett, Josh Daley and Robbie Shepherd. High Park won 5-1 at home to Northwood.

In Division Two, Wootton won 2-1 at home to Newport Res, with goals from Macauley Barnes and James Cheek.

In Combination One, Osborne Coburg Res won 6-4 at home to Sandown & Lake, coming back from 3-1 down at half time.

Sandown goals came from George Johnson, Mason Parker, Liam Pearce and Kai Westmore.

Niton Res won 4-1 away at Ventnor A in Combination Two, with goals from James Evans, Tony Potts, Keiran Ross and sub, Brandon Tuckey. Ryde Saints Res won 3-0 at home to Seaview Res.


In Divison One, Saturday sees W&B welcome Brading, Cowes Sports Res are at home to East Cowes Sports, Northwood entertain West Wight, Vectis play High Park, and Ventnor host Bembridge.

Division Two’s Niton are at home to Newport Res and Seaview welcome Ryde Saints.

In Combination One, Binstead COB Res host W&B Res, Brading Res are home to Vectis Res, East Cowes Sports Res are at home to Shanklin Res, Osborne Coburg Res play Bembridge Res, Sandown & Lake entertain Northwood Res, and Ventnor Res host West Wight Res.

Matches in Combination Two see Wootton Res at home to Niton Res, Ventnor A welcome High Park Res, and West Wight A host Ryde Saints Res.

After mid-week matches, Cowes travel to AFC Stoneham in the Premier Division. Vics play away at Hamworthy Rec and Newport are away at Aldermaston in Division One.
