Victoria of Wight breaks down mid-Solent for a short time

Passengers aboard Wightlink’s new £30 million vessel were left momentarily stranded as an electrical fault stopped the ship for a few minutes.

The 3.30pm sailing from Portsmouth to Fishbourne slowed in the water before the master announced there was an electrical issue.

HRH The Countess of Wessex named the brand new hybrid energy car ferry last Thursday (September 20).

The 4.30pm sailing from Fishbourne was been cancelled as a result.

A Wightlink spokesman said: “The 3.30pm sailing from Portsmouth was delayed by 15 minutes following a temporary electrical fault during the journey to Fishbourne.

“The ship slowed for a few minutes and the master informed customers on board.

“This is the first time this has happened.”
