Motorists are being warned of road closures at Yarmouth bridge and Medina Way bridge next month, as Island Roads carries out essential maintenance and investigation work.
Yarmouth bridge will close to vehicles and pedestrians between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Monday and Tuesday (November 2 and 3), with Wednesday (November 4) reserved as a contingency.
Work includes replacing landing pads, which transfer weight between the swing bridge deck and its supports, alongside repairs to the parapet and protective steel strip.
The bridge must remain open during the work, preventing vehicles and pedestrians from crossing. A diversion will operate via Thorley Road, Wilmingham Lane, Middle Road, Afton Road, Hooke Hill, Copse Lane and Hallett’s Shute.
Meanwhile, ground investigations will take place at Medina Way bridge ahead of a major bearing replacement scheme, rescheduled for September 2027.
The northbound carriageway will close overnight on November 2 and 3, followed by the southbound carriageway on November 4 and 5. Closures will operate between 7.30pm and 6am.
Southbound traffic will be diverted via Dodnor Lane, Manners View and Riverway, while northbound traffic will use the Lidl roundabout, Hunnycross Way and Hunnyhill.
An Island Roads spokesman said: “We have scheduled these works for the quieter November months and, by either working overnight on Medina Way or during shortened shifts in the case of Yarmouth bridge, we have done what we can to minimise inconvenience.”
