Godshill roadworks to begin on Monday

Major works to improve the main road through Godshill will begin on Monday (November 2), with temporary road closures and revised bus arrangements.

The work will cover the section between Godshill Primary School and approximately 100 metres east of the main car park, following concerns raised by residents and inspections by Island Roads.

Work will pause on December 11 for Christmas, before resuming on January 4, with completion expected by January 15.

The scheme will be carried out in three phases, with only the section being worked on is closed. Access to premises will be maintained where safe, and the road may reopen at weekends between Friday evening and Monday morning.

Southern Vectis will operate an hourly daytime shuttle bus between Jubilee Close and Newport Bus Station, providing connections to Shanklin and Ventnor. School bus arrangements have also been confirmed.

An Island Roads spokesman thanked residents for their engagement, and encouraged people to continue supporting Godshill businesses throughout the works.

The project involves excavating and rebuilding sections of the highway to address underlying ground problems that have caused deterioration since the road was last resurfaced ten years ago.

Island Roads expect to return in April, to resurface the entire road during overnight closures.

The first phase will take place outside Godshill Primary School. Allowance has been made for possible weather delays, with permission for work to continue until January 29.
