Young Islanders considering their next steps, after school or college, are invited to explore opportunities in the maritime industry at two free careers days, hosted by UKSA next week.
The events will take place at UKSA’s new Victoria Barracks campus, in East Cowes, on Tuesday (November 3) and Thursday, from 9am to 3.30pm.
Both days are open to the public, particularly young people aged 16 and over, who are considering careers at sea, onshore, or in water-sports.
Tuesday’s event will focus on opportunities across the maritime sector, including super-yachts, commercial vessels, yacht management, brokerage, and shore-based careers. Employers attending include Burgess, Edmiston, Hill Robinson, Bespoke Crew, and Sailing Holidays.
Thursday will focus on water-sports careers, with organisations including Neilson, Rockley Watersports, Mark Warner, Camp America, and Andrew Simpson Centres highlighting instructor qualifications, employment opportunities, and career progression.
UKSA chief executive, Catherine Dixon, said: “The maritime industry offers an incredible range of careers, many of which young people may never have considered or even realised were an option.
“By bringing employers and industry professionals together, we want to open doors, broaden horizons, and help more young Islanders see the potential for a rewarding future within the maritime sector.”
Jack Grundy, head of maritime education at UKSA, said the events would give young people the opportunity to speak directly with employers and understand the qualifications and training available.
Places for external visitors are limited, and advance registration is required. Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
