IW Ladies press forward with Kate Ednay on attack

Senior Island sides had a largely disappointing weekend, although there was more to celebrate from the youth teams.

The Men’s 1st XI narrowly lost 2-1 at home to Trojans, with the consolation goal scored by Stephen Woodford.

The Men’s 2nd XI also lost; their score was 4-2 away at Fareham, with goals from Tom Young and Finn Woodford.

The Ladies’ 1st XI faced a competitive and ambitious Andover side, with the home defence battling bravely and they were disappointed to lose 3-1 at Smallbrook, with Georgia Whittle scoring the Islanders’ goal, in a match of few chances and considerable effort.

The Ladies’ 2nd XI fared better and celebrated a well-deserved 5-1 away win at New Forest, with four goals from Siena Holbrook and one from Polly Ryder.

The Island’s strong youth structure saw the U-14 girls’ win 3-1 away to New Forest, with scorers Polly Ryder (2) and Nicole Simpson (1). The U-14 boys’ had an emphatic win with a final score-line of 10-0 away to Hamble. The scorers were Cooper Woodford (2), Peter McClelland (3), Nathan Phillips (3), Jasper Jenkinson (1) and Rupert King (1).

This weekend the Men’s 1st team are away at Portsmouth in South Central One, with the 2nd XI facing Trojans.

The Ladies’ 1st team play away at Havant, and the Ladies’ 2nd XI, in 2nd spot, face 3rd -placed Gosport Borough at home in Solent Division Two.
