Theatre Reviva returns to Quay Arts with their new production, ‘Were You Anyone Before Dad’s Army?’ taking place from Friday, August 2, to Sunday, August 4, in the Anthony Minghella Theatre. This play, for young and old, is the story of a man who, faced with very much more than his fair share of life’s vicissitudes, met both success and catastrophe with dignity, courage and good humour.
The many admirers of Dad’s Army, both young and old, may feel they already know the actor, Arnold Ridley, pretty well. The gentle, bumbling, innocently willing Private Godfrey has always been a special favourite in a television show that is firmly fixed in the public’s affection.
More than ever we need life-affirming stories to raise the spirits and give us hope. ‘Were You Anyone Before Dad’s Army?’ is just such a story. It is the celebration of the life of a remarkable man: an author, an actor, a playwright, a soldier, a loyal son and a wonderful husband and father.
Booking is recommended. To get your tickets please visit iw.observer/dads-army or call Quay Arts Box Office on 822490. Tickets are £19 in advance and £21 on the door.
