Success for three Wight Tri atheletes

Helen Scholes and Liz Dunlop

Wight Tri athletes delivered impressive performances on two fronts, with Helen Scholes, Liz Dunlop and Nick Curwood producing results that showcased the club’s strength, on both world and domestic stage.

At the World Triathlon Championship Finals, in Pontevedra, Scholes and Dunlop collected top‑20 finishes, a world medal, and two qualifications for Hamburg 2027. Scholes opened her campaign in the sprint race, finishing 16th of 55 in the 60–64 category. Dunlop was placed 6th in the world in the 70–74 category, and secured her first qualification for 2027.

Dunlop returned for the standard distance, where a composed swim and a fast final‑lap run earned her World Championship Bronze. Scholes rounded off her week in the mixed relay, helping Great Britain to 17th place, despite a dramatic late crash for the anchor-man.

Back in the UK, Nick Curwood marked his return to racing with a commanding victory at the Hever Castle Super Sprint Triathlon. He led from the start, powering through the 200m (219 yard) swim, tackling a hilly 12.8km (7.9 mile) bike leg on a non‑aero set-up, and holding off a late challenge from an Ironman athlete in a sprint finish. He won by 16 seconds, stopping the clock at 54m 9s.
