Runners and joggers from across the Island travelled to Southsea to take part in the biggest Great South Run to date, with a total of 26,000 participants over a 10-mile (16km) course, including Ryde Harrier, Chris Newnham, who was 12th overall in a time of 51m 15s.
Peter Wilson, Ryde Harrier and Shanklin FC, said: “The Great South Run 2026 – a massive personal best for me over 10 miles. It was an incredible event again and perfect running conditions, and thanks to all of the organisers.”
Melissa May Whipps added: “I’ve run the Great South Run to raise money for the Daisy Ring Bus – a very important service provided so that Island residents can get from the ferry ports to the hospital for their cancer treatment for free. I hope Islanders can support this worthwhile cause.”
Organisers have already started making arrangements for the 2027 event, and details will be available on their website in the coming weeks.
