Road closed by police following collision in Wootton
1 min readPolice, paramedics and fire-fighters were called out to Wootton High Street on Tuesday evening (December 4) following reports of a multi-vehicle collision.
Wootton High Street was closed off by Police between Rectory Drive and Church Road.
Two appliances from the Isle of Wight fire and rescue service attended the scene and worked with paramedics to free the occupants of one of the vehicles.
A female was taken to hospital suffering from unknown injuries.
The local bus service reported delays on routes 4 and 9 that service the area. Southern Vectis tweeted an update to customers, saying: “Wootton High Street has been closed due to an accident. Routes 4 and 9 will have to divert from Ryde, via Ashey to Downend and Staplers Road. Unfortunately we have no control over this.”

They later posted an update saying: “Owing to misinformation, Wotton High Street is closed between Rectory Drive and Church Road. Routes can still operate through Wootton albeit very slowly as they can divert via Rectory Drive and Church Road,”
Owing to the accident and diversion in Wootton, route 8 19:00 Ryde to Newport is operating 15 minutes late. Once again apologies if affected. Your drivers are doing all they can to keep to time. <WN> #travelalert
