Yarmouth RNLI volunteer, Katie Ould, successfully completed her Tier 1 pass-out during the routine exercise night last week.
Katie has been part of the Yarmouth RNLI family since April 2023, when she first joined as Launch Authority. Then, in August last year, she donned her yellow wellies and transferred as all-weather lifeboat crew!
As part of the assessment, Katie had to demonstrate knowledge and understanding in a wide range of key operational tasks — including towing, anchoring, mooring, and casualty care. She also had to show an understanding of emergency protocols, and local operating procedures.
“My training has been brilliant,” Katie said. “I feel very fortunate to have been coached and assisted by the doyens of the crew. They have so much experience and are so willing to share their knowledge; it really is quite special.
“I am out on the water a lot, and being part of the crew means I get to spend even more time on the water, but it also means — potentially — I can assist fellow swimmers, paddle boarders and sailors, who might need help out there one day.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the crew at Yarmouth RNLI; it’s a great team.”
