Rangers lend support to Katharine’s camera appeal

Isle of Wight Rugby Football Club is calling on its community of players, supporters, and locals, to give something back to one of its most-recognised figures. A fund-raising campaign has been launched to buy a new camera for Katharine Overton, the dedicated photographer who captures the action for the Rangers’ side every week.

Anyone who has visited the Fortress on a match day will know Katharine. Rain or shine, she is on the sidelines with her camera, recording every try, tackle, and celebration. After the final whistle she spends hours editing and sharing her photographs online, all free of charge, and simply for the love of it.

Katharine’s work is recognised far beyond the rugby pitch. A familiar face across the Island, she regularly documents Cowes Week and local wildlife and scenery. At 72, she continues to show remarkable passion and commitment, despite daily challenges with her disability. Her daughter, Lindsay, has now launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her fulfil her dream of owning a brand new professional‑grade camera.

The rugby club has thrown its support behind the appeal. Officials said they are working to make the clubhouse fully wheelchair accessible, so Katharine can join post‑match celebrations, but backing the fund-raiser is a meaningful way to show appreciation now.

The club is urging past and present members, and the wider public, to get involved. Anyone who has enjoyed one of Katharine’s match‑day photos is encouraged to give a little back. You can find the fund-raiser via iw.observer/camera-for-katherine.
