Radio presenter Marko ‘Lucky Boy’ Newlands is to retire next month

Vectis Radio presenter Marko ‘Lucky Boy’ Newlands is to retire next month, after hosting the station’s most listened to music show for nine years.

‘Marko’s Mod Anthems’ will broadcast for the last time on April 29, marking the end of his nine year association with Vectis Radio.

Station Manager Ian Mac said: “He is one of only a few that have been with us since almost the beginning, broadcasting from all six of the studios we have used as we have developed over the years. His show is the most listened to evening show in Vectis Radio‘s history, with listeners from all over the world.”

A former firefighter with London Fire Brigade, Marko transferred to the Isle of Wight in the late 1980s, and soon after he retired took up sharing his passion for ska, soul, and r&b with Vectis Radio.

Ian said: “He did much more than present a great music show. He worked hard behind the scenes, too, and became an indispensable part of the team. Now we face the job, with Marko’s help, of finding his successor.”
