Police close Newport High Street following ‘roof-top incident’

Police officers were called out to reports of a teenager on a shop roof in Newport on Wednesday night (December 5).

A large number of police officers attended the High street in Newport shortly after 8pm.

It’s understood police were called after a young male was threatening to jump from the top of the Poundland building.

Police originally closed the High Street and diverted vehicles away from the area. The road was later reopened by Police allowing traffic to return to a normal.

Southern Vectis  diverted their Route 7 buses via Whitepit Lane.
