New lifeguards needed ahead of summer season

Ryde Beach Life Guards (RBLG) are recruiting new members for its 2026 Beach Lifeguard Team, ahead of the summer season.

RBLG, a registered charity, provides an independent beach safety service in Ryde and Sandown, on behalf of the two town councils.

The service operates during May, July and August, helping to keep beachgoers safe during the busiest months of the year.

Beach manager, Todd Miller, said some long-serving lifeguards are moving on, creating opportunities for new recruits to join the team.

He said: “With a few of our long serving lifeguard’s flocking the nest, we are looking for some new recruits to join our team this year. It is an extremely rewarding and important role, that comes with a lot of responsibility, as well as being enjoyable. You also gain nationally recognised qualifications and training, as well as the experience of working alongside our amazing emergency services.”

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, able to swim 400m in less than 7½ minutes, be confident swimming in the sea and available to work across the operating months. The role also requires candidates to be mature, professional, proactive, hard-working, and physically fit.

Successful applicants will receive training and nationally recognised qualifications in April.
