Established in 1933, the Newport to Ryde run attracted 132 runners, with category winners including Chris Till, Lewis Holman, Stuart McDonald, Graham Gillham, Camilla Gold, Becky Stiles, Jess Heng, Mandy Smitherman, Gemma Swain and Sue Hunter.
The overall winner was Gary Marshall, in a time of 43m 11s for a 7-mile course from Newport Methodist Church to Ryde High School. The team event was won by the trio of Gary Marshall, Stuart McDonald and Trevor McAlister, with Carly Medway, Mandy Smitherman and Gemma Swain winning the women’s competition.
Three Hills Challenge
Easter Monday’s West Wight Three Hills Challenge saw 137 runners complete the 8- mile route, with approximately 900 feet of ascent taking in Golden Hill Fort, Freshwater, Headon Warren, Alum Bay, Highdown, Tennyson Down, Freshwater Bay and back to the finish at Freshwater.
Gary Marshall was first home in under 50 minutes, with other class winners including Lewis Holman, Tyler Rimmer, Stuart McDonald, Val Sesto, Gemma Russhard, Graham Gillham, Jo Robinson, Caroline Woodford, Sophie Staff, and Glyn Jenkins. Ryde Harriers won the team event for the men, followed by Wight-Tri. West Wight won the women’s event ahead of Ryde Harriers.
