MP learns about age charity funding issues

Richard Quigley and Maria Bunce

Age UK Isle of Wight welcomed Richard Quigley, MP, and his office manager, Max Nicol, to its new offices in St Thomas’ Square, where they met with chief officer, Maria Bunce, Chair of Trustees, Lorraine Buckman, and the charity’s president, Nick Hayward.

They heard about the Island charity’s vital work, which provides practical help, information and guidance, whilst supporting local residents over the age of 50 to remain independent and well. Discussions focused on the charity’s preventative services, growing demand, and the importance of sustainable funding to ensure continued cover across the Isle of Wight.

Age UK Isle of Wight is a local, independent charity. Whilst it shares its name with the national Age UK organisation, it operates independently, and must raise all its own funds in order to continue delivering these essential services to Islanders.

Mr Quigley said: “It was a pleasure to visit Age UK Isle of Wight, not just to hear about the great work they do, but also to understand that they have to raise all their own money and get no financial support from Age UK. Including from the Age UK shops on the Island. I look forward to supporting them in their work.”
