Maree Crabtree marked her 100th birthday on Saturday – and is looking forward to her next one.
A celebration took place at Wellow Institute, where 25 family members travelled from Sheffield to join local friends and neighbours inmarking the occasion.
Having retired to Wellow with her husband, Jerry, over 30 years ago, Maree has played an active part in village life. The couple were deeply committed to St. Swithin’s Church, in Thorley, where Maree was known for her beautiful seasonal flower arrangements and summer tea parties.
The birthday gathering was a lively affair, complete with a fine spread of sandwiches and cakes.
Maree called the room to order to express her thanks for the gifts, kind wishes, and support of those who made her day special. She reminded everyone that calling for silence had long been a necessary skill during her career as a primary school teacher.
Steve Cowley, the chairman of Shalfleet Parish Council, presented Maree with a card and a primrose plant as a token of appreciation for her decades of service to the community.
A devoted gardener, Maree shared that she expects to see primroses bloom agai for her 101st and 102nd birthdays, encouraging everyone to save the date for future celebrations.
