A man, who fell ill at the wheel of his car in Wroxall, has sadly died after his car crashed into another vehicle and a wall this evening (January 2).
The incident took place on Clarence Road, close to The Star pub and resulted in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attending the scene.
The main road between Wroxall and Ventnor was blocked in both directions while medical teams treated the patient.
The air ambulance landed in nearby Upper Ventnor and attempted to airlift the casualty to a mainland hospital.
However, despite the best efforts of the emergency team, they were unable to save the man’s life, and he was declared dead at the scene.
Next of kin have been informed of the tragedy.
Southern Vectis have stated that their Route 3 buses will not be serving Upper Ventnor or Wroxall until further notice.
