Man, 36, charged with assault and theft after Newport police swoop

Hampshire Constabulary officers swooped on the Chapel Street/St James Street area of Newport on Friday (November 2) at around 4pm to make an arrest linked to an ongoing investigation.
It relates to a report of an assault on September 29, in Orchard Street, Newport. A 45-year-old man from Wootton sustained minor injuries during the assault.
A 36-year-old man from Shalfleet was arrested during Friday afternoon’s operation.
UPDATE: Simon James Flux, 36, of St Swithins Crescent, Shalfleet, was then charged with assault by beating and also with theft from a shop on Cowes Hight Street, on October 30.
He was remanded in custody and appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (November 3). The case was adjourned until tomorrow (Tuesday).
