Among the stars at the Great Wight Bite this weekend will be television presenter and writer, Chris Bavin, who returns to the festival hosting the Chef’s Stage, saying: “It’s such an amazing event, and I think it’s so good for the Island.
“We’ve long known about the produce available there, and that’s always been held in high regard, but it’s also right to acknowledge the cooking and chefs as well. The people who put the event on are really lovely and, last year, it was a roaring success, so we’re looking forward to making this one bigger and better. I can’t wait!”
The TV food-lover and fresh produce importer also spoke about his support of raising awareness of food poverty, and added: “There are issues going on and if there’s anything we can to do to raise awareness, or money for that, then that’s a good thing.”
The businessman also highlighted the ‘Little Chef’s Den’ at the show and the importance of encouraging children to get involved in cooking, saying: “Kids learning to cook, or enjoying cooking, is one of the most important things we can teach them.
“I’ll also be involved in the cookery classes. It’s a very informal food festival, which is lovely, so no doubt I’ll be doing other bits and pieces.”
Chris is especially looking forward to catching up with a few old friends, when he returns to the Island, and added: “Cooking is a nice industry to be in with lots of great people. I saw chef Robert [Thompson] last year, and Helena [Nicklin] and Valentine [Warner] will be there, so it will be really nice to get together and share our passion for food.
“There will be some amazing people there, and I have also been reliably informed that the Elton John tribute act is second to none!”
