Lake secures £17,000 for New Road project

Lake Parish Council has secured a £17,000 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, towards the next phases of the New Road project in Lake.

The funding recognises investment already made by the parish council in the public amenity, as well as work carried out by volunteers from the local Tidy Team and Men in Sheds in recent months.

Future phases include new accessible seating, planting and shrubbery, a flagpole, small games and possible murals. The work will follow further consultation with stakeholders and continue efforts to promote local facilities and businesses.

Lake Parish Council chairman, Paul Brading, said: “This is very much a part of Lake’s commitment to the Bay Place Plan. Thanks to Laura Cansdale, the regeneration programme manager from the IW Council, and our local volunteers, we’ve secured this much-welcome grant towards the improvements identified following community engagement.”

Elaine Hayes, from Lake Tidy Team, said the grant highlighted the difference volunteers had already made to the parish’s public realm, including at New Road and the War Memorial.

The parish council has also invested in improvements at Manor Road play park, a water refill station at Lake Cliff Gardens, and a new defibrillator in recent months. Further projects are planned at Fairway Park, alongside support for schemes brought forward by Lake Tidy Teams and Men in Sheds.
