The Island’s photographic talent was proudly on display recently, as Focus-Ryde Imaging group hosted the All Island Image of the Year at Binstead Community Centre.
This long-standing competition, originally established by the former Bembridge Photography Club, was taken on by Focus-Ryde Imaging following the club’s closure in 2008. The event celebrates the finest work from local enthusiasts who are photographic club members.
In a new format for 2025, the competition was split into two categories — printed images and projected digital images — with a live audience and a Zoom broadcast for those unable to join in person. The event was judged by Nicholas Henry.
In the projected image section, first place went to Fallen Spring Tulips, by Tracey Winnall, of Niton Camera Club. Second was Columbian Spider Monkey, by Bridget Lewis (Focus-Ryde), and third Lone Tree at Dawn, by Tony Bennett (IW Photographic Society).
In the printed image section, Even Wild Baby Otters Suck Their Thumbs, by Elizabeth Miller (Wight Vision Camera Club) took the top spot, followed by Window Framed by Carol Walker and Dad, by Paul Dowthwaite, both from the IW Photographic Society.
The evening concluded with trophies and certificates presented, and a raffle, in aid of the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
