The ambassador to Indonesia, Dr Desra Percaya, showed off his musical talent by playing the clarinet, to celebrate the 79th anniversary of his country’s independence at East Cowes Town Hall on Saturday.
Last year, he attended the event but played the saxophone, and now delighted the audience with a different musical instrument.
Indonesia has a population of more than 250 million people and more than 700 dialects of language.
The Island’s Indonesian community, established in the 1990s, was joined by visitors from Manchester, the midlands and the Republic of Ireland.
Among the guests were West Wight MP, Richard Quigley, and East Cowes Mayor,, Tracy Reardon.
The visitors enjoyed Indonesian music, dancing, games and a variety of food dishes. The afternoon was sponsored by GKN and Oasis. An 80th anniversary special is being planned for next year.
